Abstract Hepatitis E virus (HEV) is a foodborne zoonotic pathogen and known as the causative agent of hepatitis in humans. The specific role porcine liver vehicle for human HEV infections has been highlighted different studies. Nevertheless, gaps knowledge still exist regarding possible cross-contamination both at consumer production level. Furthermore, people working food industry, e.g. veterinarians abattoir employees, are exposed to an increased risk infection. aim present study was investigate on surface German abattoir. sample set included 250 samples parenchyma corresponding superficial layer same livers, which were analyzed presence ribonucleic acid (RNA). Afterwards, initial status tested compared with occurrence RNA layer. detectable 34% (85/250) samples, 58% (49/85) originated from initially negative livers. To our knowledge, this first that provides insight potential level Germany. it could be identified joint storage livers Euro meat containers significant impact liver.
